Waiting for Downton Abbey

Well, this Sunday is the big night. The one when Season 3 of  Downton Abbey premiers! I am so excited and I hope it is as good as previous seasons. Yes, I am hopelessly hooked, right along with a lot of other followers.

In an earlier post, I told you a little about our trip to Biltmore House and Gardens in mid-March. Currently the Biltmore has an astonishing collection of costumes on display throughout the estate. Fashionable Romance Wedding Gowns in Film is truly a smashing event. Some of the films featured in this collection were nominated for prestigious film awards. Some were actually winners of the Academy Awards for Best Costuming. Being the old-fashioned soul and possessing a hopelessly romantic heart, I was totally smitten with this collection of spectacular costumes from romantic films! How to Make and Use a Stencil Using Cricut Expression

My family and many of my friends know how much I adore French inspired creations and design. The flourish of the curly-cues and curves are so appealing. An image of the Eiffel Tower in any form sets my imagination into high gear. It will come as no surprise to people who know me well that when I feel the desire to get creative, it is often with a French flair. So, when pondering what to make for Joanne, a dear friend of mine, I designed the stenciled pillow covers shown in this post.  I constructed the pillow cover/shams myself from a twin sized white cotton sheet and embellished the opening edges with black grosgrain ribbon before sewing the side seam together. If you prefer not to sew your own, you can purchase a pair and begin from there. Costumes From' "Fashionable Romance Wedding Gowns in Film Exhibition" at Biltmore House

Late last month I shared with readers about a day we spent at Biltmore House and Gardens in Asheville, North Carolina. That post was centered around the beautiful conservatory and gardens at the estate. We had a really great time with our daughter, her husband, our three granddaughters and our dear friends, Larry and Harriette. If you missed that post, you might want to check it out  here . In this post, I am writing about the spectacular Fashionable Romance Wedding Gowns in Film exhibition, which is a collection of award-winning costumes from a number of great movies. The collection is presented by the Belk Company. In addition to the fabulous movie costumes, a number of hierlooms from the Vanderbilt/Cecil family are displayed throughout Biltmore House and at Antler Hill Village & Winery, another of the Biltmore properties included in the price of admission to the Biltmore House & Gardens.
